No doubt about it, Pinoy showbiz is regaining its glory days. Not only has the number of films being shot considerably increased but even the genres being offered have diversified. The backbone was the highly-successful Rom-com which understandably mostly pulled the fairer sex (and their hapless boyfriends) to flock the cinema. Now, it's the turn of the boys to be wooed by the film producers (and that means, the barkada will likely come along, and hopefully they will pull all their gf's with them).

Unfortunately, the back row of the balcony has long disappeared. Who ever thought the vaunted modern but cramped multiplexes could be so killjoy?

The frustration is palpable from their comments: I know I have lots of hot-blooded real heterosexual male readers, just look at the list of our all-time most popular posts at the sidebar. But while the local headlines are full of stories of masturbation videos of male actors, there was a glaring lack of similar videos from the other gender. Were they suddenly shy?

I myself don't believe that Pinays only love amusing themselves in the kitchen. We always have had high birth rates that's why Pinoys are already 100 million strong.

Why were the girls so fun of making video of the boys but not vice versa? Somebody else not actually of the girl variety making the videos? Be that as it may, that's no reason to hide the girls.

The Revenge of the Beautiful Faces in 2015: More, More, More This 2016

All the Top 10 Pinoy movies last year surpassed the PHP 100 million mark, not to mention the top-grossing local film of all time  (A Second Chance, PHP566 million) was registered the same year. It could easily be the finest box-office performance of the local showbiz industry after the long doldrums. One thing glaring was the beauty of the faces that lorded over the box-office.

This is a new audience. The economy has been growing for the past few years and surely there was more disposable income  available. But PHP200 is PHP200, it is still big for a big part of the Philippine population. You really won't expect the lower classes to stay away much from their free teleserye or the PHP30 pirate DVD (unless they have their bonus & 13th month pay come MMFF). But there were more people who had more money to spare and I bet they won't waste their money chasing on films with artists whose faces they won't bother watching for 2 hours. They have self-respect too, y'know.

It was not a coincidence that Pinoy movies boomed when beautiful faces grabbed the baton. It's a prerequisite for the renaissance.

Last year I watched the most Pinoy movies in my life. Last year was also the first time I watched a local movie in a cinemahouse. I was lucky, I liked all my choices. I have to admit the only reason I wanted to watch Ex with Benefits was to see how Coleen Garcia would register on the big screen and she did looked great. It turned out I liked the movie as well (read my sort-of-review in this blog). The gloss and the MTV-like editing & scoring of director Gino Santos were perfect counterpoint to two hours of drama and I found it suited the mood of the movie. I was looking forward to his future works, so while skimming over the entertainment news today, I kinda got a kick from reading he has an upcoming project. With Coleen again at that. A bonus is Dawn Zulueta. I also liked her in The Love Affair, another hit last year, also featuring another beauty, Bea Alonzo.

NB. Good news, even the so-called lower classes who subsist on free teleseryes & PHP30 pirate DVD's welcome the revenge of the beautiful faces, the beautiful Lizquen, etc.  flew high in 2015 with Forevermore, etc. Beauty is really back everywhere in Pinoy showbiz!

THE MYSTERY OF A COPYRIGHT CLAIM ON A PUBLICLY AVAILABLE VIDEO USED FOR PROMOTIONS: Cinema Trailer 'Ex with Benefits'

NOTE: This post was published on August 20, 2015 but for whatever reason, somebody decided (or was it made to decide?) to claim their copyright privileges & denied this blog the use of the trailer which has been available to everybody in Youtube anyway. In the US, copyrights can be challenged if used in editorials by virtue of the freedom of expression but we decided to  just provide the link so you can watch the trailer on Youtube.  There were two film trailers which were taken down- Ex with Benefits & The Love Affair. The two films have a common denominator- gorgeous stars which can readily overshadow the stars of the  usual Korean films,

 It seems curious that there are strange coincidences here: certain Pinoy films have been actually deliberately hidden from the world, that explains why many Asiatic film afficionados who are hooked on Pinoy films have been wondering why only few Pinoy films were being released in the pseudo-pirate sites (these sites are propaganda sites and it would be bad propaganda for the schemers if truly good-looking Pinoy stars overshadowed their own trying-hard wannabe-beautiful stars). If they were deliberately not shown, shouldn't they also be not promoted in blogs geared towards an international audience like this blog  so that the world would remain unaware that there were films with Pinoy stars who looked really good & not the usual trying-hard that we see in certain Asiatic films that are glorified in the pirate/propaganda sites?

The girls of the teleserye Pasion de Amor have been very good to the blog. They brought in hits from many parts of the world. First, it was Ellen Adarna whose boxing clip became viral worldwide & we got clicks from such varied places like Argentina, Russia, France, etc. Then the sexy calendar photoshoot of Arci Munoz has become  the rage lately, worldwide... she has practically lorded it over in the last two months. We really don't have a sexy photoshoot of Coleen Garcia that could have become viral but all her posts in this blog have been widely clicked. I'm still waiting though for a really sexy video which could vie for the libido crown of the other two girls.

To her credit, Coleen has proven she's got it, it is well-appreciated, and that was more or less confirmed by the strong box-office performance of her launching movie, Ex With Benefits. Now, how about flaunting it some more? (Ups, forgive us there, that's not slip of the pen... we're brazen sometimes when we like so much the topic....)

Coleen's 100 Million

Well, this deserves a celebration. The first Pinoy movie that I watched in a cinemahouse which earned PHP 100 million. I have to admit I've gone used to watching films in sparsely occupied cinema salas (including the so-called Hollywood blockbusters). Since a decade ago, half empty cinemahouses have become de rigueur . This film was the first film that I watched where the house was almost full. If Coleen only dared to  show more,  the figures would have shot through the roof.

MOVIE REVIEW (Sort-Of Anyway):" EX with Benefits"

I'm suddenly watching a lot of local films in a cinemahouse lately. Yesterday afternoon, I watched "Ex with Benefits", only the third local film that I ever ventured to watch in a theater, and the second local film within the week. Ok, mostly because I was curious how Coleen would register on the big screen.

Mostly I'm impressed with the film. There are dragging moments (actually, even a yucky one when Derek Ramsay had to cry) but mostly, the big strides of local films technically were on display (I particularly loved the mood & texture of the cinematography & music).

Mostly I laud the realistic portrayal of conservative and so-called liberal values running within the same individual at the same time (like in both leading characters). Because real people are like that in real life, they don't consciously espouse conservative values to champion the conservative camp or to pretend liberal to picture themselves as liberal & pull themselves to the liberal camp. Only foolish people paint themselves in a corner & corral their instincts and inclinations to fit a particular socio-political script just so they can belong & fool themselves they are modern. These are inferior people, they live according to say-so of presumptuous smart-alecks who want them to live their lives according to dogmas (after the "much-dreaded" religious, you are supposed to follow their "modern" commandments), not to what their body & personal context tell them.You may be a slut at a point in your life but it doesn't mean you should be so forever & that you actually love being one. You might love sex but you are still free not to love a slut simply because you have a right not to. You don't live your life just because a bunch of so-called rights activists prefer to live their lives their way. If it's not like yours, you a have a right to live the way you do. You have a right to be you.

Modern contemporary life has become fascistic that you are supposed to just accede to the pretense that some people know more than you do just because they appointed themselves the all-knowing arbiters, or just because they were given media space or they had some celebrity. What do they know? Who told them they know anything more than you in living your life? If they have rights, you do have yours.

Modernity means one should do what one wants but one should be well-informed, and mature enough to accept the consequences.

Passion de Amor: THE FAST-THINKING NAUGHTY MOTHER

My friends will never believe who sent the links to this clip. But I won't reveal his name. See, I'm influencing some people here. I wrote a while back that a friend looked at me as if I came from outer space when I told him I had a blog on Pinoy showbiz. In time, as a result, they came to love Andrea Brillantes and she became our favorite actress without seeing any of her movies or shows. Now, the secret is out that somebody has been peeping on Arci, Coleen and Ellen (and probably the mother?). It took the antics of the naughty mother to force my friend to expose himself. He wrote in his note:"Tingnan mo to, astig yong palusot ng ermat."
