CALM BEFORE THE STORM?: CAUTIVA rages in Peru... But why somebody might not be happy?

I am still on vacation but I couldn't resist writing this one. So how is the Pinoy teleserye Cautiva/Hanggang Makita Kang Muli faring in Peru? It has been battling the Turkish telenovela Elif which lorded over its time slot since the latter's  opening last year (the Turk slugged it out with another teleserye La Promesa/Pangako Sa Yo earlier, preventing the latter from scoring more than 3.5 points, blunting the what-could-have-been Kathniel upsurge in Peru ).  The other day, while Elif had 7.3 points, Cautiva had 4.6 points. Yesterday, Cautiva upped its score to 4.9, the highest score for a Pinoy teleserye, or Asian drama for that matter, in the Peruvian ratings chart. It is expected to go way past 5 points as its popularity gains.

This development has created an emergency (humiliating) situation to the other Asian being shown in Peru. The Koreans have been shown in Peru for nearly 15 years but they have been generally stuck at the bottom of the Peruvian charts, mainly getting 1-2 points rating, except when the Pinoy teleseryes arrived & the other Asian telenovelas were lifted slightly on the Pinoy's wake (2 kdramas were shown before the teleserye then in the same channel, Panamericana TV). The first Pinoy teleserye, Bridges of Love/Puentes de amor, shot up way past that, up to 4.4, very high rating for an afternoon telenovela then in Panamericana TV. The kdrama preceding it broke through its usual ratings on the wake of the teleserye's surprise success (though as always, still lower than everybody else  showing telenovelas in Peru- lower than the Mexicans, Brazilians, Peruvians, Turkish, Greeks, Filipinos). It was curious that when Puentes de amor ended, its timeslot of 5:30 pm was given to another kdrama, Mundos opuestos, that subsequently inherited its audience & became the highest-rating kdrama (though again, still low compared to everybody else). But soon enough, the kdramas returned again to their usual 1-2 points in the bottom of the ratings chart. The return of another teleserye, La Promesa/Pangako Sa Yo, proved once again that a teleserye will always rate higher than the kdramas. When La Promesa ended , its timeslot again was given to another kdrama, Amor secreto, which managed to retain the audience for a few episodes until it dived again to the usual nook of the kdramas at the bottom of the ratings. The third teleserye to be shown, Cautiva, caused more sensation, & as the strategy of the Koreans to duplicate Mundos opuestos failed, the lackluster track record of the Koreans became more obvious and the  Peruvian forums finally decided the Pinoys are performing better than the Koreans. Some were even openly commenting the Korean dramas be stopped altogether. Despite long years of being stuck at the bottom of the Peruvian charts, for whatever mysterious reasons, the Koreans were still being shown. And now they are being openly ridiculed. How will they cling on, as they have proven they would cling one way or the other just to pretend there is a Korean wave in areas which ignore them?

The blog has confirmed the so-called Korean wave outside East Asia is a propaganda fiction. The vast propaganda apparatus might be noisy in proclaiming the Koreans are very popular but the usual gauges used to detect audience acceptance proved they were practically ignored. The reality beyond the digital propaganda of questionable viewcounts and paid army of trolls is very much dismal. Their permanence at the bottom of the Peruvian ratings chart for nearly 15 years was probably first confirmed publicly in this blog (we also confirmed it in Indonesia & lots of other places). The reason they were being shown in Peru is certainly not due to audience acceptance, they were practically ignored. So why were they still being shown after that long-standing unpopularity?

The tenacity to remain in Peru & everywhere else is simply amazing. But disquieting, because there lies the dark clouds. The blog also confirmed the forces behind the Koreans are not above sabotaging their competition, especially the Pinoys. This blog has annotated the series of sabotage done on Pinoy stars way back 2 years ago in the Sabotage series (read it below the banner or click Tales of SABOTAGE at the sidebar). The initial sabotage was on the surprise resurgence of Pinoy stars in the Spanish-speaking pirate sites. We discovered these pirate sites were actually designed to promote the Korean wave, using the pretense of promoting Asian artists. But when other Asian artists get hotter than the Korean artists, they were immediately cut down so as not to upstage the Koreans. The Pinoys were apparently pointedly sabotaged in Spanish-speaking sites because the Pinoys were naturals with a Spanish or a Latin American audience. As being proved in Peru right now.

Could the initial sabotage on the Jadine loveteam when the film Diary ng Panget became big in the Spanish-speaking pirate sites in 2014 (read Sabotage #2) be  a portent? The first sabotage was apparently designed to blunt the connection of a target audience to a competition which has a cultural, & even physical, connection to such an audience. Now, that connection was made in the real world, far from the dark fringes of the pirate world. Worse, they are being humiliated in the real world. What is the next move of the Koreans? In fact, they already made the first move: when the second teleserye was announced after the success of the first, the familiar scene of alleged Korean fanatics noisily protesting exploded (a now-obvious tactic everywhere- despite their low ratings, their miniscule fans are prone to protest be it in Peru or anywhere, no matter how low their ratings are- which reminds me of coup plotter tactics or "terrorists", if you may- where a small group of people use protests- or "terror"- to get their way. Obviously, these people were working from the same script). If they have proven to tenaciously cling no matter how unpopular they were, will they be willing to stay under the shadows of the now more popular Pinoys?

Interesting times ahead in Peru.

Hahaha The Koreans failed again in their dark strategy, they are still eating dust in the bottom of the Peruvian ratings: when Bridges of Love/Puentes de amor became a hit in the 5:30 slot, they grabbed the slot & showed Mundos opuestos which inherited the ratings of Puentes to become the highest rating kdrama though still very low compared to the other telenovelas showing then. But they soon returned to the bottom of the ratings as always and when Pangako sa yo/La Promesa scored higher again than the kdramas, thry grabbed again its slot & for a while, the kdrama which succeeded it, Amor secreto, inherited the ratings of La Promesa...but...but it immediately dived & only had 1 point rating now. Hahaha.
The Koreans historically rate only 1-2 points & they have been stuck at the bottom of the Peruvian charts for 15 years... but for "mysterious reasons", they still get shown despite being the lowest-rating telenovelas below the other telenovelas from Peru, Brazil, Mexico, Turkey & the Philippines.

The Pinoy teleserye, Cautiva, at 4:30 pm meanwhile is flying at 4.6 points.

I think Peruvians prefer Philippine telenovelas because of relatability. They can relate more to our culture, our mindset that is part of the show.

The Turkish are hot in Peru though they are Muslims. But they are beautiful. Just like Pinoys.
But unlike the Koreans. The bad Korean looks are the biggest burden of the Koreans, nobody wants to watch their faces, that's why they kept on sabotaging the Pinoys because they can't push their delusion of being the stars of Asia outside East Asia

You can look but don't touch. You can read but don't post.

In fact, nakaka harm yan sa promotion ng ating mga content be it ABS or GMA.

Talk to them nicely if you want to correct them. You won't win any love for out content sa mga ibang lahi kung kakalabanin nyo sila.

Just let the foreign fans do their own thing from grassroot level without interference or help from us. It is much more satisfying knowing that they are the ones that are doing all these things rather than create a peke popularity. What do you think when you find out that a fanpage that supposed to be full of activity and busy from foreign fans (supposedly) turned out to be peke and just generated by us. That wouldn't be good. There's no satisfaction in that cos u are only deceiving urself or deceiving filipinos who are unaware of the peke popularity istrok. If we want to let other filipino know that some of our stuff is getting noticed overseas, it is better that we give them the honest result rather than a peke popularity generated by our own istrok.

Parte yan ng marketing, what they call "manufactured consent" which is the essence of present propaganda. Bebenta ang talagang kelangan ng market kasi publicity is publicity, & internet troling is part of the arsenal. Kelangan lang alam mo ang limits- that is, may audience ka talaga na magre-respond- para may credibility. Kasi maski even if you have all the tools to "manufacture consent" kung makikita ang tunay na kulay mo, wala rin.
For a time, nag-work, akala nga natin popular ang mga Koreano, until we researched & found out, virtually ignored pala ang mga ito, mas popular pa tayo sa mga lugar na naroon tayo pareho

This is paying good for them. Well done.

  15. ***For ADMIN***Sabotaging****
I don't know if you are aware of this but the online kdrama streaming website VIKI.com has remove the Philippines from the drop down menu of Search by "All Countries" drop down menu. Other countries are still there like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, etc. , however, "Philippines" is gone. It used to be there among the other countries. I guess they removed it. Other Philippine content like teleserye dramas are no longer there also however all the other country's dramas like our neighbors, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and others are still there. Philippine content are gone. There used to be a dozen in there. I think this is another part of the korean sabotaging. Can you do a research on this, Admin?

    4. 10:54 AM Not likely, dahil puwede ka rin ma link ng hindi copyrighted na material doon that falls under "Philippine" category. You should at least see the "Philippine" in the drop down menu to filter the result of search but it's gone now.

Many possibilities: pwede ngang pinull out as a request from the Phil companies kasi alam na naman natin ang priority ng mga ito. Pwede rin there's another story behind that (sabotage?), but I think it's not a loss kasi di naman extensive ang material sa atin sa Viki.
I am also waiting for Admin's take on this, pero parang subsob sa vacation

    8. May Fan Channel doon na Philippine content at yung link na binigay dito sa taas na Amaya page sa viki ay blocked in other region for viewing, but be that as it may, it means na dapat meron parin "Philippines" filter category doon dahil meron pa rin Philippine contents, pero wala na ang Philippines sa dropdown menu. The one thing you can gleaned from these, and it isn't obvious if you don't know what you are seeing is that, those other countries with some of their dramas being available there are only there for decoration. Those list of other countries are also a lure for people from those countries to come to that site, but the main product they all want you to patronized is none other than the korean dramas plus the taiwanese, and japanese. But at least they are honest in that this is a profit driven streaming site whose main product they are selling are the product from the 3 listed countries above.

    9. Yan nga ang modus nila. Maraming Phil sites kuno ang sponsored ng mga Korean, including those in VK, with the obvious gimmick na masilo ang mga Pinoy fans, nakita niyo naman nakasingit palagi ang mga Korean stars sa Pinoy sites. Akala nila, makakaengganyo ang itsura nila. It's the opposite. The good thing is na-translate ito sa real world.

I called up Admin & he said he finds the Japanese as mostly fair, unlike the Koreans who are mostly delusional, they must have a reason for the changes. But he'll analyze it after Holy Week na raw

    10. My assessment from the missing PH content is that the contract for those teleserye to be shown in Viki has expired that's why they probably pulled it off. There used to be a couple of teleseryes at viki including Darna from GMA and the Bea Alonzo, Anne Curtis and John Llyod Cruz teleserye from ABS. It's odd though that the "Philippine" filter category from the drop down menu list is no longer there since some PH content are still at Viki.

I think magugustuhan nila yon.
